Welcome to Croatia!
We know many of you are traveling a long way to celebrate with us, and we couldn’t be more grateful. Since Karla’s family lives here, we don't think of this as a destination wedding. That's why we won’t be hosting a full week of events, as we'll be spending much of our time with family leading up to the big day.
We encourage you to take this opportunity to explore Croatia, especially its stunning coast and Karla’s hometown, Split. There’s so much to see and do here — make the most of your trip!
Upper Town (Gornji Grad) & Lower Town (Donji Grad): Wander through Zagreb’s historic center, where you’ll find the iconic St. Mark’s Church with its colorful roof, the medieval Stone Gate, and plenty of charming cobblestone streets. Don’t miss Dolac Market, the city’s main market, for a taste of local life.
Museums & galleries: Visit unique spots like the Museum of Broken Relationships for an offbeat experience, or explore Croatian art at the Modern Gallery.
Parks & outdoor spaces: Stroll through Maksimir Park, Zagreb’s largest park, or relax at the Botanical Garden. These are perfect spots for a peaceful break.
Cafés & restaurants: Zagreb’s café culture is lively—grab a coffee at one of the outdoor terraces on Tkalčićeva Street. For dining, try Vinodol for traditional Croatian dishes or Zinfandel’s for something more upscale.
If you have extra time, these day trips from Zagreb offer a great way to explore more of Croatia.
Plitvice Lakes National Park: This UNESCO World Heritage site is famous for its stunning lakes and cascading waterfalls. It’s about a 2-hour drive from Zagreb and is perfect for nature lovers. We (and our best friend Chris) went in 2022 and loved it!
Samobor: Just a short drive from Zagreb, Samobor is a charming town known for its baroque architecture and the delicious local dessert, kremšnita.
Croatia is full of incredible destinations beyond Zagreb. Here are some highlights to consider:
Split: Visit Karla's hometown and the historic Diocletian’s Palace. Go for a stroll along the waterfront Riva, and enjoy a fun nightlife and delicious food.
Dubrovnik: Known as the “Pearl of the Adriatic,” Dubrovnik offers stunning views, historic city walls, and plenty of Game of Thrones filming locations.
Islands: Consider visiting Hvar for its history, beaches and nightlife, Brač for the famous Zlatni Rat beach, or Korčula for a more relaxed excursion.
We've visited Korčula many times and highly recommend combining it with a day (or 2) trip to Dubrovnik via ferry. We also recommend booking an island-hopping tour to see it all!
Istria: A region with a strong Italian influence, known for truffle hunting, olive oil, and beautiful coastal towns. Rovinj is our favourite town, with cobblestone streets and colourful houses by the sea — and where we got engaged!
Wine & olive oil tastings: Croatia has some fantastic wine regions, such as Pelješac and Istria. Join a tasting tour to explore local wines, olive oils and cheeses!!
